long awaited trip to northern california

Brent served his mission in Northern California.  We've talked about going there for years.  It finally happened!  We spent the last 10 days on a road trip there.  It was so much fun!  We celebrated our 41st anniversary.  About time - you think?
Our first stop was Kings Beach in North Lake Tahoe.  Brent found the little cabin/home he lived in while he was serving there.  It was behind the fence and covered in shrubs, but it was still there.

This is the building where they attended church meetings.  The Methodists were willing to share their meetinghouse with the Mormons.

On to beautiful San Fransico

Amazing farmers market here at Market Square.
We took a tour of many notable sites.

Cable cars.

Lombard Street  -  we walked down it.

We happened to be there on one of their rare rainy days.
Grace Cathedral

Cable car station was very interesting
These big wheels pull the cars to and from their destination.
Seven sisters were built in the 1850's and sold for around $6000.00
One was just on the market for $4,000,000.00!
This was built for a worlds fair - was supposed to be temporary but was left because of its beauty.

Golden Gate Bridge
We crossed the bridge on our way to Sausalito.
We found some yummy restaurants - this was Italian.

Took the ferry back to San Francisco

 Alcatraz

 Basic cell.
 Famous prisoners.
 We took the audio tour.
Inmates used implements to spread the bars and cause a riot. Some of the guards were killed.
 Visitors window.
 Wardens home.
This is one of the cells used in the "escape of Alcatraz"
We were there during the World cup races.  Here is
 America's Oracle.

Seals hang out at pier 39.

 Muir Woods

 Beautiful sequoias
 Old as the dinosaurs?!

Yosemite
 Dry falls.

Took a chance on getting a room - ended up in a tent.  This little latch hook was our only security.  They had us freaked out about bears and rodents.  We didn't see any.

More big trees - Mariposa Grove in Yosemite

Historic Railway in Jackson, Calif.  Used in many movies.

Mercer Cavern

 16 stories down steep stairs.
Beautiful and interesting.  Discovered by a gold miner.

 South Lake Tahoe
Very enjoyable trip.

I loved hearing about all of your adventures in person - and loved this re-cap!

I was lol-ing about that teeny tiny latch that held your tent all together. I know I asked if you were ever attacked by bears - but, I forgot to ask if Dad ever pulled out his "grandma" voice? hahaha.

I love the story of that old cave - and the trees there are incredible and ginormous! It was also really cool to see where Dad served his mission! So many neat things. What a fabulous get-away!
