Fun Weekend with the Grandkids

We took Hanna and Ethan to Tibble Fork to go 4-wheeling.

We now refer to this one as "HotRod Hanna"

Starting out on a beautiful fall day. Perfect weather.

We stopped for a lunch break.

and . . .rock skipping.

Hanna caught on to driving the 4-wheeler like a champ.

Little Ethan even got to drive "all by himself"

The sun was too bright for Ethan to look up.

The kids loved going through rivers and puddles, in fact Hanna would gun
the engine making the muddy water spray, all the while laughing hysterically!

Lesson in Crochet

Hanna wanted to learn to crochet so we got her and Krystal a little project going. Here they are working hard. It's not real easy - especially for little hands.

Can you believe the concentration? They each made chains of different lengths.

Annual Birthday Getaway

It's always good to have someone to share a birthday with - especially since they're getting harder to take every year. It has been 20 years since we began our yearly golfing trip to St. George, and every year it seems better and better.
We golfed at Sand Hollow on Thursday. It wasn't the warmest day so the covered carts were nice. Thank goodness for lots of sunshine and no wind. It got up to around 55 degrees.

Here we are at a new course called the Kokopelli. It is so far out we were worried we might get to Kanab before the golf course. The scenary is amazing. It seemed like a great 4-wheeler type of adventure and what made it even better was to golf along the way.

The green fees included lunch made and served by a gourmet chef. We stopped between rounds to enjoy.

The sunshine and scenery were very enjoyable. The temperature got up to 65 degrees and we were basking!

This is a par 3 and YES, this is my drive. I did make one of my very rare birdies which was a lot of fun. At this point in our tourney, Brent and I were winning by 3 strokes but we had a terrible triple bogey and lost - once again. Dang you Pam and Randy!

On Christmas Eve we got together for all kinds of fun activities. The kids got to open presents of toys and things that stay at grandma and grandpa's house. We had a riot sledding behind the 4-wheeler in the fields behind our home. It was a FABULOUS day.

Hard to believe it's been 38 years - Happy Anniversary Brent.

We love to stay close to home because we enjoy the weather and scenic beauty of this area.

We drove up Squaw Peak Trail and continued to Hobblecreek canyon.

This is the back side of Rock Canyon/Squaw Peak.

The colors, wild flowers and leaves were amazing.

The road we were on - a little rocky but worth the ride.

Grizzley Bear and Wolf Encounter

In West Yellowstone they had this museum/zoo type thing we went to. They let the kids hide food for the bears and wolves in their enclosure while the animals are in their pens. Then they let them out to feed. It was pretty fun to see. They also had movies and presentations about the animals - very informative. It's about the only way to see a bear up close any more (and I'm glad of that!) You can hear Megan growling at the bears in the background.

Pioneer Fiesta Day (Spanish Fork Style)

The Fiesta Days Parade is a lot of fun. We lasted through most of it until

we ran out of shade and the sun became too hot.

I just love Aaron's show of patriotism.

Megan wore her sunglasses for all of 2 seconds.

The three older girls rode home with Gma and Gpa and

got to go on a few carnaval rides.

It was hard to get good pics with my phone.

We were celebrating Hanna's 6th birthday. When we asked her what she

wanted, she said she wanted "all things sparkly". She got lots of outfits and

necklaces and seemed to be thrilled about them, but told Melynda that next

year she'll ask for some toys.

A Little Piece of Heaven

We absolutely love the pleasant Spanish Fork evenings. Almost every morning the wind is blowing but the evenings are calm and nice. We sit out on our deck on a daily basis. It is heavenly.

The plants are maturing and we hope to get some more along our walkway.

Just behind us they are building a new stake center. It will hide the highschool from view but shouldn't affect our view of Maple Mountain.

Before I begin my next decade I thought I should get a total health screening - even the dreaded colonoscopy. I'm happy to report that everything is negative and normal. I'm so thankful for my good health.

This is the Golightly prep I took before my colonoscopy. I had to drink an 8 ounce serving every 10 minutes until it was gone - one gallon total. It conjures images of Professor Dumbledore drinking the dreaded potion to find the missing horcrux, when he stated, "this is no health drink, Harry".

It was anything but golightly - more like go longly, loosely and loudly!

This is my colon - and apparently this is what a normal healthy colon looks like. So glad to have it BEHIND me.

Fun Family Times

Brent was able to play in the Lavell Edwards Boys Club golf tournament with his brother Craig today.

3 years ago he got a hole in one and 36 doz golf balls.(Pictured above.)

Today he won $350.00 to Best Buy for getting closest to the line (middle of the fairway on a certain hole.)

AND----this cute little camcorderAND tickets to the BYU homecoming game!!

AND his nifty BYU hat!

Brent has his new toy and is excited to get started but first things first. There is a lot of preparation with painting. The instructions were long and detailed and we were wishing we had Kent here to help us. Our 5 gallons of primer meant for all the rooms was gone in the first one. Brent had to lighten up on the sprayer.

Melynda provided some great supervision.

Here's how you paint several doors at once - just nail them together. (Quite ingenious.)

Here's Brent with his little helper. It's a huge job to finish a basement! Thanks to James for so much help. It seems he's an expert electrician, plumber and just about everything else he does!

Unidentified Flying Objects

I came into the livingroom early Wednesday morning to find Brent sitting on the couch staring gravely ahead, in deep concerned concentration. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Did you see a bright light last night?" he querried. He then began to describe waking up with a bright circular light against his bedroom wall which shifted suddenly and then lit up the whole room. He was pretty much beside himself. I told him maybe it was a helicopter with search lights trying to find the murderers in the Payson incident on Tues. morning. He was not convinced. He brooded over it all day, thinking maybe an extra-terrestrial had scoped him out and would be coming back another night to steal him away for experiments.

That evening, the lead news story was ' Meteor lights up early morning sky, alarms Utahns'

Brent was so happy! He told me he thought it was a meteor all along. -Yeah, right.

Trick or treating followed by a chili dinner and doughnuts.
Our new sectional accomodates a lot more people and we all
love being together.

Grandma Miller's Chili Recipe:

1 lb. hamburger

1 onion(chopped and browned with hamburger)

2 cans chili beans

1 qt. tomatoes (blended in osterizer)

3 C. water

1 C. diced potatoes or zuccini

1/2 C. diced green pepper

1 bay leaf

1 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt

1/2 tsp. garlic salt

1/2 tsp. thyme

1 tsp. chili powder

Simmer 2-3 hours.

Add some grated cheese and a dollup of sour cream if you like.

Our sleep over last Friday - making smores and lots of fun

Our neighbors to the south have this dog which was injured a

while back. Hanna was so sweet with it. She's very perceptive.

The neighbors to the north have this little puppy who mauled all

the little kids and had them crying and all up on the table. You

can see the doggy footprints all over Krystals clothes. We had to

put him back in his dog run - he was a little too playful.

Megan Elizabeth Jackson came into the world today at 12:51 pm. Mother and baby are doing very well. She weighed 6 lbs 14 oz.

Parades, Parties and Prehistorics

The Spanish Fork "Fiesta Days" parade was a lot of fun - from Hare Chrisna's to monster cars and marching bands and beauty queens. . . . . . . . . . of course, we had our own little princesses.

They throw so much candy at you that by the end of the parade we were throwing candy back to them!

Sunday we had a birthday celebration for James and Michelle. James got this lawn game that was a big hit with the kids.

Here we are ready to sing happy b-day and then indulge in some cake eating.

Aaron was brave enough to let his grandma wiggle his loose tooth. I think he was glad it finally came out.

Ethan loves the dinosaur sweater I made him. He refused to take it off and we heard lots of fearsome growls while he wore it. Good thing it was a nice cool evening.

Don't get kicked in the H1N1

I went to an interesting inservice about the swine flu. It seems that the first wave was pretty mild but the virus most likely will mutate into a more virulent strain which could affect many more people. If it's anything like other pandemics, the health care system could be totally overwhelmed. They may have to implement certain criteria for treatment/non-treatment.

In Canada they use a MSOF (multi-system organ failure) scale. They give 1-4 points in each category depending on severity of symptoms. There is an arbitrary number to determine whether or not you get treated. If your number is low, you get no treatment because you most likely will survive without it. If your number is high, you get no treatment because you most likely will not survive. They score you every day. If your number rises even 1 point too high you will be taken off the ventilator you are on, given a shot of morphine and sent home with your family to die (most likely). Because there are a limited number of ventilators in the state, there probably would not be enough to treat everyone.

MSOF Scale

The presenter was an intensivist. He had a chart of the 14 patients treated in the facility where he works. Many were young adults, however one of the most interesting things they all had in common was a high BMI. That's right, they were all overweight! Do you know your own BMI? Home Sweet Home (does includes the yard)

We're enjoying our front yard - the flowers are filling out and looking pretty. (Don't look too close though - you might notice the Christmas lights which are still up - LAME!!)

Our walkway is almost done - just about 6 or 7 feet left in the back.

We decided to extend our patio out a bit furthur.

Fortunately the cement truck was able to pull

alongside the new house which isn't quite finished.

Here's the new patio furniture, but best yet is the family get-together in our almost complete back yard. It is so pleasant, we are really enjoying it.

We have had some minor problems with bees who have made nests EVERYWHERE. There were two in our barbeque, one in the porch railing, at least 4 in the eaves way up high where we can't do anything about them; and even one inside a tiny opening in our tent trailer. Brent has turned into a frenzied bee killer.

Latest update from the Millers

Sooooo- Brent lost his favorite PJ's and has been looking for them the past week. He started asking all of us if anyone had "borrowed" them. Come on! Anyway he has been searching high and low and finally offered a reward for whoever would find them. "I'm willing to give 5 or 10 dollars." It took Melynda about 2 minutes to find them. They were in the bottom of Morty's toy basket! How in the world did they ever get there?! Brent first said "Thanks a lot", but was reminded of his reward offer.

Yea, she got the $5.00 - not the 10.

Our latest project is our patio extension/walkway.
We decided to start with the rock pathway at the south side of our house.

We went to the garden/landscaping place to get some dirt (garden soil) and ended up ordering a pallete of landscaping rock and 4 yards of sand.

They delivered it within a couple of hours! -So on with the project! Hopefully it will be in before the summer begins. ( Goal is before the 4th of July)

Mothers Day was fun. I got these cute flowers from the Jensons and couldn't find my vases so M let me use her watering can. Looks quite cute don't you think?

My mothers day gift to myself was to get some decorations for my little 1/2 bath. Melynda and I spent the day before at Ikea and TaiPan and put together some bright things. It's so much better. Love it. Thanks M.

OK, I have to brag a bit. Our sweet Zebster is such a smarty. He's constantly talking. He knows the entire alphabet and all his numbers. He knows EVERY character involved with Thomas the train. Where ever we went he was pointing out letters. He mimics everyone - whatever is said, right down to voice inflection. Boy, do Kent and Leisy have to be CAREFUL about what they say!

And little Ike was totally engaged with whoever was holding him. Just look at how he twists his head to look at his grandpa! Soooooo cute! Seems like most of my babies did everything they could to avoid eye contact.

Here's Brent repairing an area that was dug up when they were building the house next door. Ivory assured us that it would be put back the way it was but alas, it ended up being a huge hole. Ivory said they were not responsible and refused to fix it. It would come under normal "maintainance" on our part. Well fortunately Brent is a very handy man and took care of it with a smile on his face.

This is the cutest baby! Just look at that cute smile. They may be few and far between but very endearing. We're so happy to be here, getting to know our sweet grandsons better. Zebby is amazing with his speech and alphabet recognition. He's amazing. He also recognizes all the numbers.

Toledo is a fun city to see; and exciting with the tornado warnings!
We went to a cool art museum today and out to lunch at a super good Italian restaurant. Kent fixed
some Brazilian fare for us for dinner.

Blog-worthy? Just an update

I love reading new blogs but hate trying to come up with something that is blog-worthy. Anyway, here's a few things that are going on in the Miller household.

EXERCISE - Why is it so hard? I brought my eliptical up from the basement where it was collecting dust and found a corner in my bedroom for it. No more excuses. I have a beautiful view out my window, an ipod plug-in so I can listen to music or audio books - I even have a couple of incentive type workout routines to get me going.

Today I tried multi-tasking. I dusted my blinds while I worked out. It's just not that much fun.

What would we ever do without James?

He is such a great guy - expert at landscaping, sprinkler installation, anything to do with trees, Christmas lights, and even turkey de-boning! He has been helping us with our basement - and just take a look -

Most of the wiring is done - it's like a miracle to me!

THANK YOU JAMES - WE LOVE YOU.

The wind has blown the snow up to a mountainous peak in our back yard. It would be perfect for a snow cave.

I think it's funny that David Osmond was booted off American Idol so early. If you can't get anywhere with that name and all his famous relatives behind him, why would he get anywhere on American Idol? But- his mom knows he can sing.

Sometimes I like to read Dean Koontz novels. He's a pretty good writer.

DOG BREATH

What is it about a puppy's breath that draws you to it? After all, it does have a bit of a skunk smell. Nevertheless, most people love puppy breath. I always have, and I love puppies(and dogs). Now I know that Mandi thinks dogs are gross and Michelle refuses to have any kind of pet in her house. . . . . . . . Pam, where did we go wrong?

Unfortunately, those sweet puppies turn into dogs. There is good reason to be offended if someone calls you "dog breath". Adult dogs have stinky breath. Now take an old dog with a few rotten teeth. That is the situation we've been dealing with. Since Morty has adjusted quite well to our recent move I am no longer making appointments for euthenasia. So something had to be done.

Here's poor little Mort after his ordeal. He was put to sleep and had all the tarter scraped off his teeth. They cut up above the gums to get them really clean. We had them give him a pain shot that lasted 24 hours. He came home all weak and shaky. He fell down a couple of times trying to go potty outside in the snow. He really wanted to eat but when Melynda gave him a little taste of pizza it made him throw up several times. (He managed to wobble to the door so we could put him out.) It was so sad.
Now why do you suppose the vet gave us the rotten teeth that he pulled? When I saw them in the bag I couldn't believe it. Now this is gross!

Just look at his pearly whites now.

They threw in stuff to help us keep to just dog breath, not rotten dog breath. Hope it works cause it cost a pretty penny!

New Prizes for BINGO

Krystal and Hanna both wanted the heart but Hanna was satisfied with the frog which made everyone happy.

Christmas Highlights

Our Christmas Eve party was at Ty and Michelle's house and it was pretty fun for everyone. The kids love dancing to Santa boogey! All the kids participated in the program. It was very cute! Thanks Michelle for a very memorable evening.

We sometimes play this game of hide and seek where someone goes out and has to find an item. I think it's called "hot or cold". Somehow we started calling it "stir the pot" - thanks to Melynda. With a present to find, the kids get pretty excited about it. Here are some pictures of the spoils

As more people move into this neighborhood we also see more dogs. Since there are few fences, Morty is open to the elements - including dogs. Here's one interaction I caught while out taking pictures of our Christmas lights. Fortunately it's just a big friendly puppy. Who knows when an older big dog would be annoyed enough to retaliate.

Sunday, Michelle had us all over for a FABULOUS Thanksgiving Feast.

Ethan is growing into Aarons car. Relaxing and visiting is our favorite thing to do.

On Tuesday I was able to go to Aaron's First Grade Thanksgiving Program. It was SUPER cute! Brought back so many memories of my kids school programs. Thanks for the invite!

Wednesday was pie making day.

Spanish Fork - Now and Then

It's hard to see but this is G&G Taylor's first house in Spanish Fork. It looks the same, just the trees in front are humongous! Next picture is Park Elementary school.

Main street hasn't changed much. And the old stake building where my siblings and I were baptised. I didn't realize it's just across the street from our grandparents old home.

This is the old 8th ward building where we all went to church. The next picture is the new Sunny Ridge ward chapel where we currently go. Our ward is growing so fast that it fills the entire chapel and cultural hall. It has almost doubled in size in only 9 months.

Here's the old homestead. The yard is about as sad as always.

Across the street where the old gravel pit was now stands a Junior High School.

We love the view out our back windows - and Morty likes lounging out on the back porch.

It's been fun to reminisce as we reaquaint ourselves with this community. Brings back lots of good ol' memories.

First there was a lot of leveling followed by trenching.
Thank goodness for James expertise; our sprinkling
system is first rate!

It was A LOT of heavy work.

A Great Find!

I love audiobooks and have spent a lot of time downloading audio CD's to my computer and then my Ipod. It can be pretty time consuming. Much to my delight I've found a website where you can download complete audiobooks for free. It is the Utah Pioneer Library http://www.pioneer.utah.gov and you sign up through your local library. The books are "checked out" for like 3 weeks and you can download them to an MP3 player and just delete them when you're done. It's great. It only takes a few minutes to download a whole book. I listen to an audiobook going to and from work and while I'm doing my housework. They have an amazing selection of audiobooks.

The only downside is that it is not Ipod compatible so I had to buy an MP3 player just for that. I got a 4 GB Creative Zen. It took a bit of experimenting to figure out how it works, but it works well and is smaller than my ipod.

I tended Ethan for the past two days so I turned the sound down. I can hear my phone ring every now and again but never long enough to track it down. It's very frustrating. Where could it be? I've ripped apart everything I can think of. Please help if you can.

Lots of anticipation for a great show. It was very patriotic
and entertaining. One of the highlights was when the Airforce
jets flew by in formation with Glen Beck (the host) describing the
scene and articulating the blessing of being an American. I must
say, I felt very proud to have a son serving in the Airforce!

We're all here with great expectation.

Our National Guard unfurl the flag in a grand ceremony.

This is the largest group of dancers ever to perform together.
They reenacted all the events in the summer olympics. It was
awesome. Below is a short clip of a portion of it.
Next clip is the main attraction seen through the 3D glasses we all had.
Last is the GRAND FINALE. We all had ash particles in our hair
from the fireworks. They try to outdo themselves every year!

For the past couple of weeks we've had a rooster pheasant
in our back yard crowing at the sun and other things.

Last night this little guy came out of our storage shed and
sniffed around our porch like he was hungry. Brent wouldn't
let me feed him. I'm not sure if it was wild or tame.

Then today when I went out to shake my rugs, this guy was
right out there. He circled the house and stayed in our back
yard for several hours.

By the way, we're having turkey for dinner tomorrow.

Why do we need so much STUFF? AND - why does Brent think his junk is so special?

I forced him to get rid of A LOT of his prized possessions but some things I had trashed suddenly reappeared. It makes me crazy!

The last day of our move we took the last load - mostly things we didn't know what to do with - to Savers for donation. Our trailer was full and we had several things to "donate". We went there at about 5:45 pm (it closes at 6:00). This guy looked at the trailer and started ranting and railing!! We told him that we were just leaving a few things and not all of it, to which he was greatly relieved. He told us, "Just put your things over there; oh, and thank you for your donation."

As we were unloading our stuff, another car pulled up with a very heavy box full of stuff and once again this guy started hyperventillating. He heaved the box out of the car with much grunting and groaning- but,

he did not fail to thank them for their donation.

Then comes a pick-up truck with this beautiful gold couch. The guy really started throwing a fit about this time. I tried to get some discrete pictures but was unable to get his face. It was very entertaining. He told the people to take it out of their truck but the thing was so heavy the three people couldn't budge it. The guy had to help. Again, there was much grunting, groaning and a bit of swearing under the breath. As they pulled this thing out it split apart into four pieces. There was a shredded hide-a-bed inside it. Once again we heard a "thank you for your donation". I'm thinking it wasn't really heart felt.

After seeing the things the other people unloaded, I was feeling pretty good about the junk I dropped off. Could anyone elses junk really be a treasure to someone?

Spanish Fork - Here We Come!

Just look - the door was finally unveiled and we love it! The

shutters were installed yesterday. The carpet is in -And the

appliances. They've scheduled our final "orientation" meeting

for April 21st. So we'll be moving very soon.

Trading Freeway for Wind Farm

Just a few miles up the canyon road from where our new

home is, is the new wind farm in Spanish Fork. There are

9 wind mills which can harness lots of power for the area.

It's kind of exciting. Those things are HUMONGOUS!

They look small here. I like the idea of energy production

Easter Egg Hunt all it's Cracked up to be?

Here it is around 2 am and I am wide awake. I've been thinking about Easter and all the fun it brings. I remember as a child the awesome easter egg hunts the city put on. We would go to a huge field where all the kids (it would have been all the kids in the whole city) would gather eggs that had the name of a business written on it. Our mom would then drive us around to all the different places where we would turn in the egg for some kind of prize. Now that I think of it - that was pretty extravagent. Whoever organized that must have been an overacheiver! It seems like there were some pretty good prizes but it was probably mostly penny candy. Anyway, it was so much fun and a great memory.
Now fast forward to when my children were growing up. When Kent was about 8 I took him to the Mountain View High football field where there was a city easter egg hunt. We were a little bit late and I was afraid he wouldn't get his fair share so I told him to go ahead while I found a parking spot. It was pretty crowded but I found one and hurried in to see how Kent was doing. I got there just as the bell rang to start the hunt. What a relief- but I couldn't find Kent anywhere! I frantically ran up and down the field searching for him. I then went around the bleachers, but NO Kent! Finally when everyone was leaving I ran back to the parking lot where I found Kent waiting. He thought I had meant for him to wait there while I parked the car. He was pretty dejected and I felt terrible! We went to the store and bought some candy but it was poor consolation. That was one time when I wished Kent hadn't been such an obedient child. Sorry Kent - it still haunts me to this day.

Some of the finish work is being done including the shelves in the laundry room and closets, all the tile work in the bathrooms and the beginning of the railing. A lot of the baseboard is in so it should be ready for painting soon. It's really coming together!

Here it is the middle of December and I have almost $800.00 of my flex money (out of $1000.00) to use before the end of the month. Kristy got me an appointment with the eye doctor - thought I could get some new glasses with my money. Well, he checked the fluid levels (tear production) and it seems I'm 2/3 low. His solution is 1 tsp of flax seed mixed in yogurt or juice in the mornings and two salmon oil tabs at night. I also have to increase my water intake and decrease my diet coke intake. :( He's big on contacts and gave me yet another pair to try. If I can make my eyes more moist, I may be more successful with contacts.
I still got glasses however - and put as many bells and whistles on them as possible. They include: the silhouette frame, (it's a mystery that a frameless frame is the most expensive), the newest in technology lens plus a crysol finish (an extra $120) and the transition lenses (+$100.00). They came to $750.00 and that is with a 20% discount!! Brent thinks I got ripped off and I probably did, but I'd rather waste the money on glasses than give it to IHC!

It snowed so much last Saturday I thought the ward party might be cancelled, but it was one of the best attended ever. I couldn't believe all the people. They had a yummy dinner including prime rib! No wonder. Since when do you get prime rib at a ward party?

Ethan helped make the ward Christmas party a lot of fun. He loved banging the cup with his fork. It was OK until he poked me in the eye with his fork. Brother Grimes thought it was funny.

Ethan was our little buddy last Saturday while Kris and James celebrated their anniversary. He's such a sweety. He thought he was really cool holding on to the blind rod. Can't you just hear his "Ahhhooooooo":)

Should I buy fresh or frozen? They say fresh on the label but feel like a thawed frozen.

Readymade pies? Frozen pies? Or homemade pies? Since I don't make pies real often, will my homemade be as good as a readymade or frozen?

So many decisions - and should I break down and make rolls from scratch? Will they turn out? Roades Rolls are pretty tasty - just ask Zak.

Morty's worst nightmare

It's grooming day and Morty is ticked because he knows where he's going. He won't look at me in the car. After he's in his cage and just after I snapped this picture he came up in an almost sitting pretty position and looked imploringly at me with those puppy dog eyes. It earned an sympathetic "AWWW" from the groomers assistant. Sorry Morty - you need to stay and get de-stinkedtified! (Even if it only lasts a couple of days.)

My friend Tavia was willing to do a little surgical procedure along with her other assignments today. She started with a digital block which worked very well or the rest wouldn't have been tolerated at all! Off came the damaged nail and I'm hoping in a couple of days it will look and feel better. Update of activity where we're building. They've finally leveled out the ground and taken out the ditch behind our property line. I'm thinking that means they'll be breaking ground before long. Several of the homes are near completion. They are really pretty. We've been able to see all the designs and choices. They must finish one group of homes before they start on the next. We're really getting excited.

Cute Krystal went with us for a while today. She chattered and sang and was so cute and happy. She started talking about how she loves to play dollhouse. Remembering the blog Michelle recently did, I asked; "Does your daddy play dollhouse with you?" to which she replied, "No, he just sits on the couch and watches TV." Haha Tyler - caught you! She's counting off on her fingers all the people at her house who sit on the couch and watch TV.
Gotta love her!

Hanna was busy listening to the stories on the computer -"the bad bad woff" being one of her favorites. Morty thought the blankets were for him to sleep on and wasn't too happy sharing with Hanna.

Here we are trying to play a game and watch a movie. We built a blanket baracade to keep out our little helper. He 4-wheeled over it easily. Then there was Morty who thought it would be nice to be right in the center. Very challenging. We did make it through one hand.

Morty now has a new threat - he's fast and determined. Ethan loves Morty and is very obscessed by him. If Mort isn't looking out, he's quickly attacked. Watch Out! Of course Mort's favorite thing to do is sleep in a little spot of sunshine.

I've lived the last 5 or 6 years with only 3 working burners. Now that we're trying to sell our house, we're getting little things like this fixed. You can see how much brighter the front right burner is - it's pretty much new. I think it went out within the first year of having this stove. It has been very annoying not having a fourth burner. Well, this Thanksgiving I won't be handicapped! I just can't figure out why I lived with it for so long?!

We played some fun games. The kids all showed their skill at eating donuts on a string. YUMMY! They popped balloons and had to act out the halloween character inside the balloon. Whoever guessed right was the next one to pop the balloon. There were some very good guessers!

Funny prizes

This year we did a ring toss game. The higher the points - the bigger the prize. Some of the adults couldn't resist playing. The prizes were put to good use.

The white elephants are always fun. Everyone got a great gift - not a "keeper" in the bunch.

Trick or Treating through Grandma's and Kristy's - can be a very frightening experience! (Especially if you walk in on Uncle Ron in the bathroom!) Melynda scary? -NOT

In my haste to get my groceries out of my car and into my house, I loaded my arms with stuff and slammed my car trunk shut. It seems my left hand continued it's downward movement a bit faster than the trunk door and my middle finger was caught in the door! My initial instinct was to pull my finger out, but to no avail. It was definately pinned there. I dropped everything I was holding and tried to open the trunk with my other hand. I couldn't do it but lifting up on the door eased the pressure somewhat. What a predicament! My garage door was closed and I was all alone. The car keys were in the ignition and I had no way to get help. I did attempt to kick the garage door with my foot and yell "HELP", but none came. I knew I had to resolve this by myself some how. I started trying to find some type of lever to lift the trunk door enough to pull my finger out. Brent's golf clubs were within reach but too big. There were some metal clips that were too small. I finally got ahold of some type of metal ring that was strong enough and was able to free myself! I just kept thinking - don't pass out! If I hadn't been able to get my finger out, it would have been 5 or 6 hours before Brent got home. Today my finger is sore and bruised but I still have it!

It got me thinking of this guy who got his hand stuck under a bolder in Moab and had to amputate his arm to save his life. (Not that my experience is anywhere near this). It is a good book and I recommend it.

Here are the monster buildings on state street and 4th. They've gotten a lot done on them. They are huge!

The north side is going up a lot faster than the other one did.

On our day off this week we drove to Heber where we found a new restaurant called "Breadstix". It was yummy! It's by the train station and all the olden time shops.

We've been enjoying the beautiful Utah mountains in full fall color.

This is the Ivory Home design center that we have gotten to know pretty well over the past few weeks.

These are the colors and materials we have chosen for the outside of our home. The main stucco will be the darker color with the lighter trim. The rock is brown toned. Brent won out on the wood front door. I love it, should be really pretty. We've stayed with neutral earth tones throughout.

We'll have solid oak floor from the entrance through the nook and kitchen. Our carpet is a color called "Snowbird". The bathrooms and laundry will be tiled in the darker color next to the wood sample. The tubs and showers will be tiled with the two lighter.

Our kitchen cabinets will be the knotty oak in the Hampton style (shown in the white cabinet). The bathrooms and laundry will be the center cabinet sample - natural oak. We'll have an oak railing with and iron insert and have decided on a corner fireplace in the great room with an inlaid flat screen tv above it. (How cool is that!)
Groundbreaking will be in 6-7 weeks and will be ready for us to move in in April! We're way excited. We'll have a big party for everyone maybe in May?
